Simon's story
I joined E-zec after 21 years with Tesco, as a Quality and Compliance Manager. From the very beginning the E-zec team were supportive and welcoming and I felt very comfortable and confident in delivering my role.
I’ve always been encouraged to put myself forward for new and exciting opportunities within the growing business. Over the past three years, I became a Care Quality Commission Registered Manager, where I am the main liaison between us and the CQC. Last year as part of my continuing professional development funded by E-zec, I completed a Level 5 NVQ. And, at the beginning of 2022 I was promoted to National Health and Safety Manager.
I’m really enjoying the challenges that my new role brings and being part of a team driving continuous improvement, I’m already making positive changes to processes and policy.

Ellie and Holly's story
I’m Ellie and together with my crew mate Holly we work out of the Redditch base. Holly and I are very fortunate to work together as we have been best friends for 11 years!
Recently, we transported a lovely patient to an appointment, which she was hoping for some good news from. Unfortunately, she didn’t receive the news she was expecting, so Holly and I sat with the patient for a while and offered her a shoulder to cry on. It was very emotional for us all and it’s times like this we feel so helpless.
The patient was staying in hospital for a few days, so we decided to ring the ward to ask if we could visit the patient and take her some flowers to cheer her up a little. The patient was so overwhelmed by our visit, and it made our day to be able to do this for her.
It’s situations like these that Holly and I are grateful to work together because we know each other’s strengths and weaknesses and can keep each other grounded. We really do love our job and I know me sharing our story will put a smile on Holly’s face too!

Sarah's story
A day in the life of an Ambulance Care Assistant. Well, it’s never dull! Every day is different, from the journeys we make, to the people we meet. From one end of our beautiful County to the other. Caring for small babies to the elderly.
I love to hear the tales told by our older generations, the story of their lives. By the end of our journey and time together I know so much about them. I usually know why they’ve been in hospital, their occupations, how many children or grandchildren they have and with some of our ‘frequent flyers’ even what they’re having for dinner!
Our job is about knowing what each individual needs. To be quiet when you sense a patient doesn’t want to talk, reassuring with a smile when they are going somewhere new, to holding their hand throughout the journey when they’re worried or scared. We chat about anything at all and it’s amazing what you find out. And, to get to see the joy on their faces when they are reunited with their families or familiar surroundings.
So, no two days are ever the same and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Team comments
Making a career change and joining the E-ZEC family was the best decision I’ve ever made! The great crews, managers, team leaders and amazing patients. I truly am living my best life with E-zec.
Paula Wooldridge // Controller
One of the biggest and best rewards of this job is to see the joy on a patient’s face as we return them to the comfort of their own home after a long stay in hospital.
Paul F // Team Leader
I had the greatest pleasure in taking a 99-year-old (EOL) patient home after a long stay in care. He spoke very little. But on our journey home he asked if I was ex forces, which I am. I said how proud I was to have served. This prompted him to chat more and I found out he was one of the very first Special Forces during WW2. As I was also a desert rat, we had a good laugh together. When we finally reached his home, his son was so surprised to hear that his dad had been chatting so much – as he’d not spoken much for the past year or so. The patient asked me to send a letter to him and his old regiment. I did just that for him and his old regiment sent him a beret and t-shirt. A couple of months’ later his son wrote to me to tell me his dad had died but said he had died a very happy man knowing his comradeship continues on.
R Blight // Fleet Operations Assistant
Some of our patients who’ve been using our services for a long time, such as renal patients, become like family to us, as we’ve been transporting them for years.
Jason H // ACA
It’s a privilege when we get to know the families of the people we see and transport regularly.
Lorraine F // ACA
I love everything about the job, especially working with a great team.
Gary Sibley // ACA
