High Dependency

E-zec specialise in transporting High Dependency Unit Patients (HDU). The majority of E-zec’s contracted services have an element of HDU journeys, requiring fully equipped ambulances operated by a Paramedic crew.

The most noticeable contract for HDU work is our contract with UHNM which is a Major Trauma Centre serving the North Midlands area with Critical Care departments. Within the hospital it holds 40 critical care beds and highly trained critical care teams. To support the trust with their needs we provide a service for patients transferring in an ambulance to and from their facilities. E-zec’s contract is to supply vehicles equipped to A&E specification and employ staff trained to HD and Paramedic level, all dedicated to the 24/7 service.

Patients using the service will be some of the sickest people, undergoing major surgery, or an urgent MRI scan, at their retrospective hospitals. This includes, ill ‘stable’  and ill ‘unstable patients’, with response times as little as 10 minutes. Patients will be transferred by our staff, and when required, a clinical team from the hospital will attend. Journeys could be anywhere within the UK, with or without a hospital medical team.

Specially trained ‘High Dependency’ crews and ambulances provide enhanced clinical care during inter-hospital transfers. Our ambulances are equipped with defibrillator monitors, suction units, resuscitation bags, maternity packs, pain relief, oxygen, spinal boards, scoops, carry chairs and infection control kits.
